Junior Band Jam 2008

Just a reminder that tomorrow night, Tuesday the 29th, is the Junior Band Jam concert at Anderson MS. The concert features the combined 5th grade and combined 6th grade bands and will begin at 7:30 PM.

Middle School Solo and Ensemble

Norup International School was well represented at District IV Solo and Ensemble on Saturday in Clarkston. I was especially proud because all Norup students received a first or second division rating.

Receiving a first division:
Jim Demery--7th grade trumpet solo
Lim-Lim Kobe--7th grade oboe solo
Lim-Lim Kobe--7th grade piano solo
Nicholas Rifel--8th grade trumpet solo
Natalie Gerfen--8th grade trumpet solo
Daniel Okun--8th grade tuba solo

Receiving a second division:
Nicholas Dolnicek, Christian Dolnicek, Alex Bergsman & Jack Reedy--7th grade mixed quartet
Jordan Akins--7th grade flute solo

And Kyle Church and Jacob Lurie were DQed on a technicality, but played very well in their duet.

A Quick Note About Norup Conferences

Due to conflicts with a Tri-M Music Honor Society trip to the DSO on Thursday, I can only be at Norup conferences on Wednesday night.

On Thursday March 20th, Norup was thrilled to host the Kris Johnson Quartet, a jazz combo from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's jazz education division. Kris, the group leader, is a very talented, up and coming trumpet player (see his website for more info--www.krisjohnsonmusic.com). Julie Smith and I brought them in as part of our 7th grader collaborative unit on jazz and the music of New Orleans. Here are some great pictures from the performance.

High School Conferences and Pie Sale

I will only be available TUESDAY night at BHS conferences. I hope to see all parents there.

Also, Grand Traverse Pies will be dropped off at BHS on Wednesday (3/19) morning, and can be picked up there any time between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
